I write this from Orlando, enjoying the sunshine and fellowship of the USCCB at our annual June gathering. This message will be short and sweet. God is good, the Church is in good hands, we have a wonderful Holy Father. We received encouragement from the new Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Gabrielle Caccia, that the foundational work of the Church will continue, that of missionary evangelization, now with a view to the future of technology and artificial intelligence. You may wish to review Pope Leo’s encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas: on Safeguarding the Human Person in the Time of Artificial Intelligence. This document reviews the history of the Church in its teachings of social doctrine, in the rights and dignity of the human person in relation to society. We have now a fresh basis with which to approach the future, framed in our Church teaching. This is an exciting development, more is to be written, and we will reflect on the implications for years to come.
"God is good, the Church is in good hands, we have a wonderful Holy Father."
As we look to the future we pray for our country. In the 250th anniversary of its founding, the bishops together have just consecrated the United States of America to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This devotion has been so embedded in the life of the Diocese of Pueblo, with seven parishes consecrated to the Sacred Heart, that we pause, and realize, how Jesus has been with us in so many little ways, even before our Diocese was officially proclaimed. We are joined in prayer for our country through the year ahead, knowing that Jesus has blessed us and hears us. And we pray for ever more love and care for our Diocese, our parishes and missions, and our families. You can find a beautiful prayer card and additional resources dedicated to the consecration of the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus by visiting the USCCB website We Hold These Truths.
Know of my prayers and gratitude for you. I look forward to my return, and to seeing you as quickly as I am able.
