Lent: A Time of Mercy

When we think of Lent, we think of penance and conversion.  It is a time of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving, a time when we reflect upon our lives and those things within us that need deeper conversion and healing so that we may live the lives in Christ to which we are called.  This should be a time of joy for us, for we are being guided by the Holy Spirit into deeper relationship with the Father, into deeper identification with His Son, Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and into working with the Holy Spirit to bring the love of God to others.  It is a time of mercy, where the love of God reaches into our wounds, purifies us in love, and invites us into His mission of mercy.

This Lent let us reflect upon this mercy of God that we receive.  Let us see the great work that God is doing in us, and let us be led into the work that He wants to do through us.

I invite you to join me in reflecting on these topics this Lent during a three session Zoom series, “Lent: A Time of Mercy,” focused on the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy.  How can you enter into Lent more fully by engaging in the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy? This series will explore what mercy is, how we have received the mercy of God, how the Eucharist calls us into sharing this mercy with others, what the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy are, and how you can grow spiritually and help others come to know Christ better by engaging in these Works of Mercy according to the Little Way.
