The speaker approval process exists to help the Bishop of Pueblo carry out his duty under Canon Law to protect the integrity and unity of the faith (CIC 386).

These instructions are to assist Pastors and those with pastoral responsibilities to ensure that guest speakers who come into the Diocese in person or virtually to teach the lay faithful, do so with fidelity to the Magisterium of the Church. The faithful have a right to expect that what they hear from speakers within our parishes, campuses, or schools will be consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church (CIC, 229 §1).

Prior written approval from the bishop or chancellor is required before inviting a speaker to talk on faith, morals, or public life at a parish, school, or organization.

Clearance is valid only once on an event-by-event basis and must be sought each time a speaker of ministry event provider is being considered, no matter how many times the person may have spoken before in the Diocese of Pueblo.

Before submitting your request, please review the speaker approval process. The following information is required for the suggested speaker:

• A letter of good standing that has been written within the last year from their home parish or diocese. If the speaker will have unsupervised contact with children or vulnerable adults The letter must mention the date of the speaker’s most recent Safe Environment Training and background check.

• The suggested speaker’s curriculum vitae or other background information, such as printed publications or websites related to the topic on which the person will be speaking.​

Following the review, a letter of permission or refusal will be sent to the parish or organization making the request via email correspondence.
